For most of the year, the weather in Luang Namtha is pretty comfortable and only light clothes are enough. It consists of a warm summer season from March to May, although gets a little nippy between November and February and warm clothing may be required. The rainy season of Luang Namtha begins in May and lasts until October and can be a lovely time to visit Laos as everything is fresh, green and verdant. Rice is sown during the rainy months of June and July, and whilst there are still days during this time when the sun shines and the skies are clear, the norm is rain.

Trekking in winter is a popular Luang Namtha tourism activity but make sure that you dress warmly in layers. It will get a little warm towards midday and you will have to take off a few layers, however, once the sun has set you will need your warm clothes again.
