Backpacker in Luang Namtha

The Thoualsith Guesthouse without a doubt is one of the nicest and best value for money in Luang Namtha Town. It is located on the main road but set back slightly, close to the night market, restaurants and travel and trekking agents. With free WI-FI and bananas the second floor balcony is a great place to relax and plan your travels.

Located just off the main road as you arrive in Muang Sing, The Chanthimmeng Guesthouse is a two storey medium sized, fairly modern building that sits on the edge of the rice paddies. While being sparsely furnished it is cool and clean with high ceilings and thick walls. There is also a communal seating area on the second floor that leads on to a balcony with a television and water dispenser.

The Sengdeuane Guesthouse is on the main road a 5 minute walk just beyond the centre of town. Don’t be turned off from the street appearance as the front of the guesthouse is a local restaurant with the guesthouse nestled in a garden behind the restaurant.

If you consider Muang Sing to be off the beaten track then the Adima Guesthouse would definitely be off the beaten track and right in the heart of nature. Nestled at the base of a mountain chain and just a stone’s throw from the Chinese border it is truly surrounded by nature. It is primly placed for trekking in to the mountains and the local ethic minority villages such as the Akha, Yao and Leu.

The Phet Moungkhoun Guesthouse sits on the brow of a hill just after the Chouk River on the main road that divides Vieng Phouka. With a large garden are at the front, the guesthouse is cool and calm. The rooms which are bungalow style, two rooms to a bungalow with a shared balcony, are dotted around the large garden area.

Opened in 2005 the Samlan Chai Mountain Lodge and is perched at the top of a large hill overlooking Vieng Phouka and has awe inspiring views over the sleepy town of Vieng Phouka and the surrounding countryside.

The family run Sangouanchai Guesthouse, opened in 2009, is a new 3 storey building located outside the normal tourist areas but still in the heart of Luang Namtha. Clean and comfortable it is suitable for both the business and tourist traveler alike.

The Tai Dam Guesthouse and Restaurant is nestled in a quiet and tranquil corner of Luang Namtha. With two types of accommodation wooden bungalows and a main building set around a scenic landscaped garden it is a perfect place to relax and explore Luang Namtha from.

The Thonmixay Guesthouse is a small quaint and inviting guesthouse on the brow of a hill beside the main road and nestled beside the Chouk River.  With bungalows strung along the brow of the hill overlooking the Chouk River and a big leafy garden to the front of the bungalows the Thonmixay Guesthouse has a rustic charm all of its own.
 

Named after the river Chouk that runs beside it the VPK Namchouk Guesthouse is just off the main road running through Vieng Phouka. Opened in 2008 the VPK Namchouk Guesthouse is split in to two halves, there are bungalow style rooms that overlook the Nam Chouk and there are more modern rooms set back slightly across a parking area.
