Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative: 

Phou Iu Bungalows supports the local ethnic groups by making excellent use of traditional Lao and local handicrafts in all bungalows as well as supporting the distribution of textiles by having a small gift shop selling wares from Akha, Tai Lue, Khmu and other minorities which have been made locally. By supporting, using and distributing these goods, Phou Iu is helping rural minorities earn a sustainable, clean living enhancing their livelihood and developing their skill sets.

Bungalows have been constructed using local materials including wood and bamboo which also keeps the revenue within the district.
