Dokchampa Hotel
Sustainability
The friendly manager, Mr Noi, is originally from Vientiane and came far away to Dokchampa Hotel in Luang Namtha to develop his skills in the business of tourism and English language, as well as to help out his stepfather who owns the property. Very ambitious, Noi is now also studying computers and IT whilst working at Dokchampa.
The director of Dokchampa studied tourism in Vientiane many years ago but then went on to work for the Government for 15 years until he resigned to follow his ambitions of opening up his own business starting with the large shop next door to Dokchampa and then in 2008 to build the hotel.
Caring for destination
This accommodation provider has taken action to address one or more issues (whether environmental, social or cultural) which will contribute positively to the long term viability of the destination and hence their site displays a Caring for the destination rating.
Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
Environmental and Cultural Awareness
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
Dokchampa Hotel takes the following measures to try and minimize their impact to the local environment and community:
- Installed key tags in all guest rooms to help minimise excessive and unnecessary use of electricity, especially high polluting and high energy consuming appliances such as air conditioning units when guests are not in their rooms. By staying at Dokchampa Hotel and using the key tags properly, you and the property are helping to reduce the world's energy consumption and HCFC emissions from air conditioning units.
- Keeps all guest rooms as non smoking. By having no smoking rooms, this preserves the life of the rooms meaning curtains and bedding don't need to be replaced as often and walls don't have to be repainted as regularly. By reducing these cleaning materials and costs, hotels with a no smoking room policy reduce the amount of harsh cleaning chemicals and detergents, water, energy and paint that is used on an annual basis as well preserving the life of the room and its furnishings therefore reducing excess consumption of all elements.
- Displays educational posters for foreign guests on the cultural Do's and Don'ts in Laos to help maximize the visit for both the visitor and the local. By taking note of these appropriate cultural behaviours and acting respectfully towards the local community, you will enhance your experience and not offend anyone.

on 08 Dec 2011 Luang Namtha is set in beautiful countryside, and that should be maintained.
The newer part of town (where the hotel is) does not of itself have a lot of character - apart from the nearby night markets.
